From Infinty Charter School:

“Over the last few months, our kindergarten, first, and second-grade classrooms, all enjoyed learning about communities in many different parts of the world. Many guest speakers visited our classrooms to share their experiences. One of our guests, also a mother of two students in our school, spent two years living in Uganda as a member of the Peace Corps. She recalled fondly her many friendships with the people in the community where she lived. She read a story to the students about a family in Uganda who received a goat via a charitable organization, which provided the family with the necessary income to send their child to school.

We were all moved by her presentation, and wondered how we could express our gratitude, not only for her time and effort, but to those who dedicate their time and effort into helping those in need. We decided we would try to earn the money for each of our four classrooms to purchase a goat for a family in Uganda. We set about this in two ways. We started a fund raiser, Change for Change. We encouraged our parents to provide their children with opportunities to earn some change to donate to this endeavor.

On the first day, all the students collected pennies, the next day nickels, the third day they brought in dimes and on the fourth they collected quarters. In addition to collecting change, the students spent the week making winter crafts to sell for donations at our annual winter concert. I’ve never seen the students so industrious or so enthusiastic! Our classrooms were abuzz with chatter about the goats, and the task at hand. On the night of the winter concert, our young students manned their table and sold their wares. Our donation box was overflowing in minutes as our parents and their guests purchased our winter crafts. On that Friday, after just 4 days of work, our Infinity Charter School students had collected $1, 600.00 to purchase goats for families in Uganda. Our students were absolutely delighted with the outcome, and we are looking forward to seeing the goats we purchased make a difference for a community in Uganda.  We hope to continue our support of The Uganda Goat Project with future fund raising efforts.” - Beth Roberts, Infinty Charter School
